🔎 Bio:
Over the past 25 plus years, Michael has worked for major accredited testing laboratories and notified bodies certifying medical devices. His medical device experience includes both non-active and active devices ranging from joint compression devices, and surgical saws to rapid infusion pumps. Michael has also worked for medical device R&D companies.
He was a mentor in Elemed’s Mentoring Program, where he donated his time mentoring RA/QA professionals to achieve their goals and develop their leadership skills.
He is actively working on projects involving regulatory assessments for the US FDA, EU MDR, and UK MDR. His overall medical device regulatory experience spans multiple markets including US FDA 510k, CE marking under the MDR, UKCA marking and ASEAN Medical Device Directive, to name a few.
What attracted you to a career in the healthcare industry? 🤔
As an engineer, it would have to be innovation and medical technology. As an RA/QA, deciphering the complex regulatory maze. As a person, help in any way I can.
What do you love most about your job? 😊
Waking up in the morning and feeling blessed to help others.
What challenges do you face? 🧐
Every day is a challenge and I prefer it this way. Because, without the challenges, my day would be boring and wasted. My experiences in life both personally and professionally keep me in check to face the challenges and stay on track with the least stress and noise. Not to mention, I’m surrounded by some of the most beautiful beaches in the world!
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned from working during the pandemic? 👉
Many people have suffered because of the pandemic. Many lost their job, lost loved ones, and closed their businesses. I’ve reconfirmed to myself that life is truly precious and to live it so every second counts.
Do you have any advice for young people interested in working in your specialism? 👍
Do what truly makes you happy. At first, try many different things in your journey to discovering who you are. If you happen to find your path in the medical device regulatory field, take it one step at a time to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Know that this profession makes an important contribution to the entire world.
How did you bounce back from a low point in your career? 😎
Surround yourself with genuine people who have had similar trials and tribulations as you have, and take your time and not be pressured by external noise. Find yourself again and get back on track as you once did in the past.
What excites you about the future of MedTech industry? 💫
AI and robotics.
What has been the most important moment in your career to date? 📢
Starting my own medical device regulatory consulting firm. It provided me with better control over what I can learn and who I can help, and sense of purpose. And, allowed me to grow as a professional and an entrepreneur at my own pace.
Who do you admire in the MedTech industry and why? 👀
I do not admire a specific individual per se, but I do admire the MedTech companies that continually strive to provide better and safer patient care devices.
If you were reincarnated as an animal, which animal would you be and why? 🐐
Well, based on the Chinese Zodiac, I’m a monkey, but I would rather be an eagle. It has the freedom to fly anywhere it wants to go.
